TESTIMONIALS
"There is not nearly enough space here to adequately describe how competent Ron is. Over the past several months that we have worked together he has shown initiative, organization, clear communication skills both written and verbal, intelligence, and a lively sense of humor. Working with Ron was one of the most fun experiences I have had in any business relationship because our ideals are nearly identical - do the job exceptionally well, be thorough, and accurate, and don't forget to laugh along the way. I just can't say enough about Ron!"

ABOUT ME
I was born and raised in Woodstock, Ontario; a great place to call home! During my formative years, I attended Princess Public School, D.M. Sutherland Senior Public, and finally, Huron Park Secondary School. In my final year at HPSS, I served as Student Council President and Co-Captain of the football team. For the record, no one would have ever mistaken me for a model student. In fact, it was often said that I never let school interfere with my education!
Following High School, I set off for Humber College to study Broadcast Management. From there, a career in radio took me to Simcoe, London and Hamilton before spending four years in Vancouver. While I initially went to the west coast to become the Creative Director at CKLG-CFOX-FM, I soon found myself working as a Rock Radio announcer which was an absolutely fantastic experience for a young person in the 1970's...especially one who could tell people he was from Woodstock!

Upon my return from Vancouver, I studied Business and Economics at the University of Western Ontario. By then, it was the early 1980's and summer jobs were difficult to come by. To pay my way through school, I accepted a part time position with Western Cable, a local company that you may remember. As it turned out, I remained with the organization for the next 18 years, eventually assuming the role of Director of Programming and Community Relations for Shaw Communications (Ontario) Ltd.
In 1999, I received a call asking if I would consider taking over as the Executive Director of the Woodstock YMCA. I had been a Y Member and Community Advisor for many years and was well aware of the dire financial difficulty the organization was in. After initially declining the offer, I spent the next several weeks reflecting on what, if anything, could be done to save the Woodstock Y from the wrecking ball. I concluded that the job would be a huge headache, and, whoever accepted it wouldn't make very many friends given the significant changes that would be necessary. So, naturally, I called back to accept the challenge and never regretted my decision. (Update: After decades of discussions that pre-date even my time with the YMCA, I am pleased that the various levels of government have finally made a significant financial contribution to this valuable community resource. Major facility renovations are now complete.)
I am now into my fifth year with RE/MAX a-b Realty in Woodstock. Although the idea of being a Real Estate Agent had never crossed my mind, it struck me one day while I was away on vacation. I suddenly realized that, whenever I went anywhere, one of the first things I would always do is pick up a real estate magazine. The truth was I had always been fascinated by different communities, neighbourhoods, architecture, and interior design. So, while I never pictured myself as a "sales person", I concluded that I would really enjoy helping some people market their homes and, at the same time, assisting others in making sound purchasing decisions. That's when I realized that my education and experiences in Business Management, Economics, Media, Advertising, Promotion, Internet Marketing, and Community Services would all lend themselves very nicely to the real estate industry. Traditional Salesperson? No, definitely not. Purchasing and Marketing Advisor? Researcher? Business Coordinator? Tour Guide? Absolutely! I am the modern Realtor.
EVEN MORE ABOUT ME
In many ways, golf has helped to define me as a person. I first picked up a club at the age of 8 and the game has been my friend ever since. Golf has taken me to many parts of the world and provided me with special memories almost too numerous to count. These days, my friends are quick to point out that my skill level has declined steadily in recent years, however, I continue to discover new reasons to appreciate the game every time I play.
While I have served my community as a member of the Rotary Club and United Way, golf has always been my volunteering passion. I spent almost 20 years teaching the game for Fanshawe College, the Thames Valley Board of Education as well as countless individuals. Since 1999, I have volunteered with both the Royal Canadian Golf Association and the Golf Association of Ontario. It was an honour for me to serve as Chairman of the 2005 Canadian Junior Championship as well as Co-Chair for the 2009 Ontario Amateur. Consider yourself forewarned; the Oxford Golf & Country Club (Craigowan) has just been awarded the 2014 Canadian Ladies Amateur Championship and I might be calling on you to volunteer!

My wife, Wendi Yates, was born in Venezuela to British parents who later settled in Toronto. Wendi's background is in Fashion Design which she studied at Ryerson University before moving on to do her post-graduate work at the ARS Sutoria in Milan, Italy. (and yes, our closets are very full!)
Today, Wendi owns and operates "C'est Cheese Please!" at 12 Water Street South in the historic district of old Galt. The store replicates a Victorian-era French fromagerie and features fine cheeses from around the world as well as many others from artisanal Cheesemakers in Quebec and Ontario. If you are ever in the neighbourhood, I hope you will stop by to say hello. The self-proclaimed "Gourmandista" will be happy to offer you a tasty sample!
Thanks for visiting my website. I hope we will have an opportunity to work together in the near future!
